“Belle & Herbs Café, More Than Good Coffee”

I have been a frequent visitor to Belle & Herbs over the last couple of years and it’s my pleasure to write this feature on what in my opinion is one of the best coffee shops/cafes in the Newcastle area.
Belle & Herbs was established in 2003 by Merseysider Sam Storey whose background in social work and belief in community spirit has led him to develop a café with a truly unique ambience. Sam wished to develop a truly social space in the area that was welcoming to everyone regardless of age, profession or background. Often frequented by the numerous artists and musicians based in the area, Belle and Herbs hosts live music nights and has recently had performances from artists such as “Single Man Affair” from the USA and local performer Richard Dawson. The walls of the café are often adorned with the works of local artists giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience.
The interior of Belle & Herbs is beautiful, and many of the original features found in the residences around Heaton remain intact. The huge wooden fire place and spectacular ceiling are complimented by the old wooden tables and lazy armchairs that are scattered around the dining area. The large glass windows to the front make the cafe very light and airy which is a pleasure both in Summer and Winter months.
The café is not just style over substance though. The coffee is excellent and there are a range of tea’s, hot chocolate, and cold drinks available including their excellent fresh smoothies. All in all I can’t recommend this place enough. The only problem with Belle and Herbs is that its increasing popularity
sometimes can mean queues leaving the door at peak times, begging the question, ‘is it time to open a second one Sam??’
